Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s house hit by rocket

Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s house , who is president of the Balochistan National Party, attacked by rockets in his native town of Wadh on Sunday 18th June. Sardar Ataullah Mengal and Sardar Akhtar Mengal were not in the house when the attack took place. No-one has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.

 

Sardar Ataullah Khan Mengal  popularly known as Sardar Ataullah Mengal, is a well-known political and feudal figure of Pakistan hailing from Balochistan. He has been campaigning a nationalist and separatist movement in Pakistan for over four decades. He is the head of the Shahizai Mangal tribe. He was born in 1929 in Wadh, and became the first Chief Minister of Balochistan during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's premiership from 1 May 1972 to 13 February 1973.

 

It was reported that Sardar Ataullah Khan Mengal was one of many candidates considered for the position of President of Pakistan after the resignation of Pervez Musharraf. Ataullah Mengal participated in the founding of Sindhi Baloch Pushtoon Front in London on 31 March 1985.

 

Sardar Akhtar Mengal is the youngest son of Sardar Ataullah Mengal. Akhtar Mengal  served as the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Pakistan from 22 February 1997 to 15 June 1998. He leads the Balochistan National Party (BNP), a provincial political party calling for equal rights of Balochistan through peaceful and democratic struggle. In 1997, the BNP was the largest party in Balochistan and Mengal was the chief minister. Mengal came to Pakistan after ending his self exile in Dubai on 25 March 2013 after four years to participate in 2013 election.
